FAQ - Medical Monitoring

Do I need to see a doctor?
Hi-Energy strongly recommends that you see your doctor for a general exam and blood test panel before you begin the program.

What will be required in the medical screening?
Your Hi-Energy certified weight loss counselor will coordinate with your physician the exact medical screening to be determined. Included in this screening is an EKG and blood pressure check.

What is an EKG?
An EKG (Electrocardiography) test measures the electrical signals that control the rhythm of your heartbeat. The graph that will show your results is called an electrocardiogram.

During an EKG, electrodes are also connected to a machine that translates the electrical activity into line tracings on a paper. The tracings are then analyzed by the machine and the read by a doctor for abnormalities. The electrical activity of the heart can be detected through the skin by metal discs called electrodes.

What is the doctor looking for with the medical screening and EKG?
The reason for the EKG is to make sure you don't have any previously diagnosed heart problems or heart disease that would be a problem if you do the Hi-Energy plan.

An EKG will show:

  • Evidence of a heart enlargement
  • Signs of insufficient blood flow to the heart
  • Signs of injury to the heart
  • Rhythm problems
  • Changes in the electrical activity of the heart caused by an electrolyte imbalance (Medical definition by Web MD )

*An EKG will not predict heart attacks
